Free Miscellaneous Knitting Patterns

Free Miscellaneous Knitting Patterns

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

I’ve created a roundup of some beautiful free miscellaneous knitting patterns. Lots of these are in my own queue! Of course, you can always browse the massive archive of free patterns on Ravelry to find more free knitting patterns. Many of these patterns are by established designers, so they shouldn’t have errors and should be well written. However, I have not tested them, so always check for errata to prevent future headaches! Trying out a designer’s free pattern is a good way to get to know how the designer writes, so if you like his or her instructions and methods, you might feel more comfortable purchasing another pattern of theirs.

Bobble Sheep Pillow in Super Soft Merino by Purl Soho

The Bobble Sheep Pillow by Purl Soho caught my eye years before I even learned how to knit! I love the squishy bobbles knit in super bulky yarn. Purl Soho has since published a similar pattern for an even larger sheep!

Lovely Lunch Bag by Faith Schmidt

Lovely Lunch Bag is a quick and fun knit. To make the bag, you knit in the round up to the strap section. The strap is knit flat, and finished off with a three-needle bind off. The sides of the bag are knit in a slip stitch pattern that is easy to memorize and work.

Opus the Octopus by Cate Carter-Evans

Opus the Octopus is worked in the round with intarsia tentacles worked flat. The pattern is from the Deep Fall 2014 edition of Knitty Magazine, and uses DK weight yarn. Check out Cate’s free Tako the Bobtail Squid pattern, or other paid cephalopod patterns. I love the nautilus!

Eggsy Hats by Rosemary (Romi) Hill

This wee celebratory egg hat by Rosemary (Romi) Hill uses bits of yarn and knits up in a flash! They use fingering weight yarn, and are knit in the round in one piece.

Moomin Troll Softie by Sari Nordlund

My Finnish friend introduced me to Moomintrolls. This pattern allows you knit your own using DK weight yarn. The pattern is available in English, Finnish, and Swedish.

Trade Blanket by EweKnit Toronto

EweKnit is our local yarn store, one of our favourites in Toronto! Their Trade Blanket uses the colours from the Hudson’s Bay Company. Those stripes in classic colours are a mainstay of Canadian design. EweKnit publishes lots of patterns, many of which are free!

Sand Tracks Pillow by DROPS Design

The Sand Tracks Pillow by DROPS Design uses DK weight yarn. The finished pillow looks like a sand dollar in a neutral colour, or it could look like a starfish in a bright orange or purple!

Bruce The Great White Shark by Frances Gillespie

Another amazing pattern published in Knitty Mag! Bruce is a knitted and felted great white shark. Once completed, he measures about 12 inches/30.5 cm long. Frances has several other cute patterns, included lots of felted animals and even a knit opossum!

If you want to knit yourself a hot water bottle cover, then the Hot Water Bobble by Emily Bolduan is your pattern! This simple and cozy cover is worked either in the round or flat from the bottom up. It’s fast to knit at any skill level and is covered in cute, squishy bobbles!
