Why is it that I love art depicting food so much?

During August’s Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market, Tomiko, Donatello, and I took a look at the Kensington Market Art Fair. It was just a small affair in an empty lot that runs from 12-7pm on Pedestrian Sundays, but there were quite a few stunning pieces available. Cindy Scaife’s series True Patriot Grub was particularly interesting: she drew traditional (or not-so-traditional) Canadian foods as adorable little people. Like the classic Tim Horton’s Double Double. Or the heart-stopping Quebecois treat Poutine. Or the Bag of Milk, which all non-Canadians think is weird.

Her pieces are available as affordable giclée prints, or as original acrylics on canvas or wood.

Cindy Scaife is a diverse artist, as she is available for commissioned portraits, residential murals, or corporate murals. I’ve even seen one of her works at our nearby grocery store!
