One day when my mom and I were in Chinatown, we stumbled upon a new restaurant. The restaurant was in the location of an old standby eatery that served delicious $2.00 bahn mi, but which had recently closed down. This new place had the same layout and similar design and artwork (including the distinctive chicken graffiti by Uber5000) as the two Banh Mi Boys restaurants that I’ve visited, but it had a different name – Lucky Red. A few weeks later, I read in the NOW magazine that it was the newest restaurant by David, Phil and Peter Chau, the Bahn Mi Boys!

While still serving the delicious banh mi stuffed with lemongrass tofu (which I tried and is delicious), duck confit (which a friend tried and said was delicious), or grilled pork (which Karlos tried and said was delicious), the main attraction is the Chinese bao, or steamed buns. Remembering those delicious mushroom bao from Ippudo in New York, I had to try the bao at Lucky Red. I had the panko tofu, which was served with pickled carrots, pickled daikon (which we call konkon in Japanese), cucumber, cilantro and hot sauce. Absolutely spectacular. And the price is right too!

The godzilla is eating kimchi fries (which are super tasty by the way).
