Crochet coffee cozy, Kiku Corner

This coffee cozy is made from leftover yarn that couldn’t be made into any large significant project. I used a cheap acrylic that could be washed, as I knew this coffee cozy would eventually have coffee stains on it. This is a quick and simple project for a quiet afternoon indoors.

Firstly, my French coffee press measures 9 cm in diameter. This pattern is based on my French press, and as they are all a bit different, there is some variation in the pattern that you need to adjust for.

Instructions

Row 1)  chain 6 in the blue yarn. Join with a slip stitch to make a ring.

Row 2)  6 SC around the ring to complete the first round. Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch.

Row 3) *SC in next stitch, 2 SC in next stitch.* Repeat from * until round is completed. Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch. Ch 1.

Row 4) *SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch.* Repeat from * until round is completed. Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch. Ch 1.

Row 5) *SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch.* Repeat from * until round is completed. Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch. Ch 1.

Row 6) * SC in next 4 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch.*  Repeat from * until round is completed.  Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch.

By now, test your circle. If it fits the bottom of your French press, continue, if not, repeat row 6 until it does.

Row 7) SC in each stitch until end of row.  Join first and last stitch with a slip stitch. Ch 1.

Row 8-11) Repeat row 7.

Row 12-13) Change to white yarn. Repeat row 7.

Try your half-finished project on your press. It should fit the bottom of the press and about 3cm up the sides, but not yet touching the bottom of the handle.

Row 14) SC in each stitch until the fourth last stitch of the row. This break will be the place for the handle. Turn. Ch 1.

Row 15) Start the next row (going in the opposite direction). SC until end of row. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 16) Repeat row 15.

Row 17-21) Switch to blue colour and repeat row 15.

Rows 22- 36) Continue this colour pattern of 5 rows of blue and 2 rows of white yarn using single crochet until there are four stripes of white. Try the cozy on the press. Your work should measure just to the top of the handle. If it is still too short, repeat one or two more rows in the correct pattern colour.

Row 37) Make a chain of 11 stitches. This makes the base for the tab to close the cozy. Turn.

Row 38) SC until end of row. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 39-40) Depending on where you are in your pattern, switch to blue colour. Single stitch to end of row. Turn.

Finish with a slip stitch.

Sew on a plastic snap fastener on the tab and the main section, as in the photo below.
