Preheat oven to 375 F.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add the salt, egg, and vanilla and beat to incorporate.
Stir in the flour and baking soda.
Stir in the oats and chocolate chips.
Place rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet, at least 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Let cool for a minute on the cookie sheet before removing to a cooling rack to cool completely.
