DIY: Easy Homemade Lip Balm

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

If you’ve ever wanted to make your own homemade lip balm, this is a great starting recipe! It just uses three ingredients. We didn’t want to add any fragrance oils or essential oils because we can’t be sure that they are food grade. And if lip balm is on your lips, you’re going to be eating some eventually!

Use yellow beeswax if you want that delicious scent, or refined white beeswax for unscented. The mango butter is lusciously creamy and has a slight mango scent from the container, but the prepared lip balms end up unscented.

This recipe makes homemade lip balm that’s intended for storing in small tins. That means the end product is softer than lip balm in tubes. If you have tubes, just use 3 Tbsp or grapeseed oil instead of 4 Tbsp. You can easily double or triple the recipe if you’re making lots. I definitely want to make more since homemade lip balm is a great gift!

You don’t have to buy any special containers for this! I save those little glass jars from hotel buffets, and they’re perfect! The glass is easy to clean and sanitize, and they’re reusable and eco-friendly! Here, I used an old jar of honey and jam. Perfect!

We get most of our supplies from New Directions Aromatics in Mississauga, but most grocery stores will carry grapeseed oil. I’d also love to find a local source of beeswax to support Canadian beekeepers, so if you know any that may part with their beeswax, please let us know!
