DIY Recipe Swap, Kiku Corner

On Sunday evenings throughout this winter, Tomiko and I held a Crafty Circle with a few of our friends. One of these friends recently sent this email around, and I tried it out. At first glance it reminds me of an old-school chain letter/email, but this one actually has some benefit! Within a few hours of sending out this email (and sending a recipe to the #1 on my own list), I got quite a few recipes in response. Lots of them look great, and are ones that I normally wouldn’t have looked at, but I will definitely try a few of them!

Just email this to 20 of your friends/families:

Hi Everyone!

We are participating in a collective and hopefully TASTY experiment. As such, you have been invited to be part of a recipe exchange. We hope you will participate. We have picked those who we think will make this fun. Please send a recipe to the person whose name is in position 1 (even if you don’t know them) and it should be something quick, easy and without rare ingredients. Actually, the best one is the one that you know in your head and can type now. Don’t agonize over it, it is one that you make when you are short on time.

After you send the recipe to the person in position 1 (and only that person), copy this letter into a new email, move my name into position 1 and your name in position 2. Only our names should show when you send your email. Send to 20 friends (blind copy). If you can’t do this within 5 days, let me know so that it will be fair to those participating. You should receive 36 recipes. It will be fun to see where they come from! Seldom does anyone drop out because we all need new ideas. Turnaround is fast because there are only 2 names on the list and you only have to do 1.

Thanks!

1. name and email of one friend (e.g. Tomiko, tomiko@kikucorner.com)

2. your own name and email (e.g. Meinhilde, meinhilde@kikucorner.com)
