These pink Fallberry Mitts by Anne Hanson are a quick fun knit! I took them on my vacation to Italy last fall. I loved the tiny project bag I could carry around in my backpack and work on between sips of my Aperol Spritz.

The yarn is The Dye Guy Socky-Talky™ in Rose of Sharon.  I picked it up last summer from The Fibre Garden in Jordan, Ontario. This is the same yarn from my Pink Entrelac Headband and I had some left over for another project. I selected this yarn because of the 80% Superwash Merino and 20% Nylon mix. The nylon gives some extra strength to the wool and I wanted a durable material because I intend to wear these mitts for many winters. Also, the pink tonal yarn looks beautiful in this fallberry pattern.

Like the headband I knit with Socky-Talky, the Fallberry Mitts pattern is from Knitty. I am very happy with all of their patterns because they create beautiful knit pieces.

This is a fingering weight yarn even though the pattern calls for a heavier sport. The finer yarn and needles (US 1½ – 2.5 mm) counteracts my loose gauge and I wanted the mitts to be close fitting on my wrists. I also like the mitts a bit longer so I knit one more repeat of the textured pattern. The resulting pink fallberry mitts are a light but warm addition to my winter wardrobe.

The final size of these mitts is 21 cm long (8.5 in) and 12 cm wide (4.5 in) at its widest part. They cover all of my palm and almost halfway up my forearm, about 10 cm (3.5 in) from my wrist bone. One could extend this even further with one more round of the fallberry pattern.

The free pattern is available here.
