As Tomiko and I are heading to Iceland in June, I knew we needed knit sweaters for ourselves. I knit Ar Tresins for myself, and this Compass pullover for her!

I used MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino, a sport weight 100% merino yarn. To fit Tomiko, I knit a size Medium using 3.0 mm needles for the body and 2.5 mm needles for the ribbing.

I used a navy called Midnight as the main colour, and a rich yellow called Butterscotch for the contrast. Tomiko requested that I add some embellishment to the wrists of the pullover. To get a good contrast for the colourwork, it’s important to choose two colours with varying colour values.

After the sleeve decreases, I ended up with 56 stitches. This is nicely divisible by 14, 8, 7, and 4. I started with four repeats of 14-stitches, then added seven repeats of the 8-stitch pattern.

Since Tomiko is petite, I shortened the body by about 5-7 centimetres. She often finds sweaters too long. As this is a top-down sweater, I was able to get Tomiko to try it on to ensure the body length and sleeve length were appropriate.
