DIY: Crochet Toddler Earflap Hat and Free Pattern

Crochet Toddler Earflap HatCrochet Toddler Earflap Hat

My crochet toddler earflap hat is adapted from one found on Ravelry. We are visiting a friend in Montreal and she has two little ones, so I made this hat for the older boy, and a crochet toddler turban for the one-year-old girl. I didn’t have any aran weight yarn for the toddler earflap hat, so I recreated the hat in DK weight.

I used Garnstudio DROPS yarn with a blend of 50% cotton and 50% superwash merino wool. Kids are messy and get dirty easily, so I didn’t want to burden my friend with kid clothes that had to be handwashed. This hat can be thrown in the wash (with warm water) and then line-dried. This hat is 7″ tall and 21″ in circumference.

Row 16) sc in each stitch across. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew button in the middle of row 13.

If you want to add a pompom, the contrasting yellow (or pink or blue) would look really nice. I decided not to add a pompom because I want the hat to be machine washable, and I’m nervous that a pompom in the wash would fall apart.

Sorry, I don’t have the pattern written for a 3-month-old. However, you could try stopping the increases after the hat becomes 17″ around (maybe around row 14 or 15), and then proceed with that lower number of stitches around. Hope this helps!
