DIY: Crochet Garden Grows Hat by Mamachee

The Garden Grows Hat by Mamachee is a beautiful two-toned crochet hat that has a leaf and vine motif.

To make the hat, I used a 4.00 mm hook and Cascade Yarns Heritage Solids in Limestone and Sage. I used the sage for the green leaves and the light limestone as the background. I bought this lovely sock yarn from Ewe Knit, one of our favourite yarn stores here in Toronto.

Some people on Ravelry said they struggled with the mosaic crochet technique. However, I used Mamachee’s pattern to make the Cathedral Hat last year, so I already had the hang of the interlocking crochet. Mosaic, or interlocking crochet, is a technique that uses two contrasting colours to make a motif. Instead of switching yarns throughout each row like in tapestry crochet, mosaic crochet uses one colour per round, only switching colours when starting a new round.

I made the adult size and the hat turned out nice and stretchy. I really love the leaf and vine design. This hat would look beautiful when made in slightly variegated yarns too.

The pattern is available to purchase from Mamachee’s Ravelry shop. This finished Garden Grows Hat is available to purchase from our Etsy shop.
