DIY: Knit Okinawa Cowl and Free Pattern

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This pattern for our Okinawa Cowl creates a fine mesh garment that is light as a feather. The wool used here is Manos del Uruguay Marina, which is a 100% merino lace weight yarn. I picked up the yarn last summer in Montreal at Effiloche but had trouble deciding which colour until I saw this one called Denim. Just like any good pair of jeans, the colour goes with just about anything in your wardrobe.

We named this cowl after the Japanese island Okinawa because the fine mesh stitch reminded us of a fishing net. The tonal colours of this denim colourway is interesting yet neutral, which will give texture to any outfit.

  3. I’m not a knitting pro, but I think there may be a typo in the pattern? I think that Step 6 should be ‘repeat rows 4 & 5’ rather than rows 7 & 8….???

    1. Hi Mary Anne- Thanks for the question. There isn’t a typo- I think you may have switched the “row” and instruction number. You should repeat rows 7 and 8 or #4 and #5. Try that and see how it goes.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
