New Look 6346 A-Line Skirt I made the Simplicity New Look 6346 A-Line Skirt in a lovely black cotton jacquard. The pattern called for an invisible zipper, but the neighbourhood Fabricland doesn’t have invisible zippers and I don’t have an invisible zipper foot. Instead, I used the directions for the lapped zipper in Simplicity 2906, and I think it looks fine. This was the first time I used fusible interfacing and made a proper waistband, and I think it all turned out great apart from a tiny mistake at the top of one side of the zipper. It’s barely noticeable though, so I’ll leave it as is.

Ryan and I luckily have a large kitchen pass-through where I can lay out and cut large pieces of fabric – my own built-in cutting table! Now that I’m getting used to laying out patterns for cutting, I’m trying to be more economical with my fabric. I am learning from my mistakes and the above photo is bugging me – so much wasted fabric!

The jacquard has a lovely sheen to it and although it looks like a plain black skirt from far away, the up-close details make it special. I have been on the hunt for a plain black a-line skirt for the past year, ever since I wore out my favourite one from H&M. I couldn’t find any suitable replacement in the shops, so I was happy to be able to whip up my own using New Look 6346!
