Tomiko and I stopped by the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu on our way from Quebec to Tadoussac. We weren’t staying there, but we did decide to have a bite to eat at the manoir. It was the perfect place to stretch our legs after all the hours in the car and take in a bit of luxury.
We sat in the sun on the patio, overlooking the St Lawrence River, and planned the food for Tomiko’s 30th birthday (which included croquembouche, deviled eggs, and asparagus wrapped in puff pastry).
We ordered a trio of pastries to share, and then ordered coffee and tea. The croissant was buttery but light and flaky; the apple strudel was sweet and nutty, but the best was a Danish filled with a kind of maple jam and raisins. Delectable!

It seemed that the staff were setting up for some sort of banquet on the middle terrace, so we went down to the lower terrace.
Down by the river were a set of train tracks, and just as we were pondering what they were for, a two-car train came by. Guests back in the day would take the train directly to the hotel. Fairmont hotels seem to always be located in prime locations near main train stations, near Parliament, or the main harbour.
