Prince Edward County Eats: The Hubb Eatery and Lounge

The first stop on Kiku Corner’s Quebec Culinary Adventure was The Hubb Eatery and Lounge in Prince Edward County. While not in Quebec, it was the lunch stop on our 6 hour drive to Montreal. Serving lunch and dinner six days a week, The Hubb Eatery and Lounge is the restaurant attached to Angeline’s Inn.

Angeline’s Inn started life as the Hubbs Estate, a piece of land that was owned by Angeline and Henry Hubbs in 1869. Over the years, the grand old house was used as a private residence, boarding house, and country escape. In the 1950s, a motel was built alongside, and through various incarnations, the estate was bought by the Fida family. Now the two Fida siblings run the inn and restaurant that their family established. From the looks of their website, Angeline’s has several accommodation options, from individual rooms, suites, and even fully-equipped homes…including a log cabin!

The casual restaurant is attached to the inn, so one can easily enjoy a lunch or dinner, including local wines, local beers, and cocktails, before retiring. Or, you can do what we did, and take a stroll down Bloomfield’s main street, pausing to take in the barn quilts, taste some local ice cream, and do some shopping.

Tomiko and I arrived around 1:30 pm, just before they closed for lunch. I ordered the vegetarian banh mi hoagie, stuffed with pickled cabbage, and potato chips on the side.

Tomiko ordered the smoked Ontario pickerel terrine, served with olives, potato, almonds, and quail eggs. She said it was fantastic!

We made it just in time for lunch, after spending a leisurely drive through Prince Edward County. When we were finished eating, there was only one other table occupied! Unfortunately, this also meant that we didn’t have enough time to visit Sandbanks Provincial Park – which just means we’ll have to come back some time.

We were there on a cloudy, potentially rainy day. If the weather had been better, we would have asked to dine outside.

After we ate lunch, we explored The Hubb grounds; adjacent to the restaurant was one part of Angeline’s Inn, the Walter Economy. It is the reincarnation of Prince Edward County’s first Motor Inn (aka motel) from 1953. It has beautiful, affordable rooms – a great place to stay next time we’re in the area!

The Hubb Eatery and Lounge also had a few of their own barn quilts, so of course we had to take photos!
