Fionna Hanna is a Toronto-based textile designer that features archetypal Canadian animals on her cotton or linen pillowcases, scarves and pouches. Silk screen and embroidery combine to form graphic animal silhouettes accented by cheeky red accessories like scarves or headphones (or are those earmuffs?). Growing up overseas, we would often scoff at Canadian things, but now I find I’m kind of drawn to those images. I really like that the designs are of relatively simple line drawings and silhouettes, not over-the-top or tacky.
These would make great gifts for our friends and family members that live overseas – a little piece of Canadiana to remind them of us.
