DIY Crochet Giant Winter White Cowl

This is a warm, woolly cowl that I crocheted last year. Crocheting with a double strand of yarn makes each stitch thicker and more stiff than a single strand, and that’s what gives this cowl a bit of structure and holds it up around your neck. It works up very quickly because of the thick yarn and large crochet hook. This cowl also nicely contrasts with Tomiko’s red wool coat (which she bought at a consignment store for just $10!), which seems like a breath of fresh air when most people only have black outerwear.

Winter in Toronto is relatively mild compared to other parts of Canada, but it can still get down to -10C (with a windchill of -25C) pretty regularly. That means one must bundle up before heading outdoors! And what better way to do that than with something both homemade and toasty warm.
