Greece. Indonesia. Thailand. Whenever our family would visit a beach during our vacations, our mom would always sit in the shallows and rub sand over her arms and legs. While we kids were playing and messing around, we laughed at how she looked covered in damp sand. But it seems like she had the last laugh, since she would get amazingly soft skin by the end of our vacation.

If you’re like us and don’t have regular access to warm, sun-kissed beaches, you can get soft and smooth skin with this homemade spa treatment. Using sugar and salt instead of sand makes a lovely, exfoliating moisturizing treatment for your hands when kept in a small container by your washroom sink. It’s also excellent moisturizer for my arms and legs, especially in the dryness of winter. I also like how the lavender oil and buds add a clean, floral scent.

As it is so easy to whip up but so luxurious to use, I know this will make a great present this holiday season!

Lavender Sugar + Salt Scrub

Makes 1 1/3 cups

Ingredients

2/3 cup granulated sugar

2/3 cup salt

4 Tbsp oil

10 drops lavender essential oil

1 tsp dried lavender buds

Directions

1. In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients well. The scrub should look somewhat fluffy.

2. Carefully transfer the scrub into a shallow container. Tag the container with a pretty label.

3. To use, after washing your hands, massage about 1 teaspoon of the scrub into your hands for about 1 minute. Rinse, then pat dry. Your hands will feel beautifully smooth and moisturized.

4. This makes a great homemade gift!

love a good scrub and i go to the Korean spas in LA so the ladies can spend 2 hours buffing me! May i ask, what the difference is, using sugar compared to salt or a combination of the two? Have you tried other percentage combinations of the two ingredients?

  2. […] You can customize it to your own flavour preferences, adding lemon zest, rosemary, rose petals, or lavender. It’s also makes a great, low-cost gift that is easily used […]
