DIY: Crocheted Lacy Turquoise Shawl, Kiku Corner

My office at work is small but with a giant, drafty window. It gets really cold when I’m at my desk, but I refuse to sit and work while wearing my winter coat! So I crocheted this Graceful Shell Shawl using five skeins of 100% wool from Romni Wools so it’s quite warm, plus it’s pretty. It was another of my projects during 2013-2014’s Crafty Circle Sunday meetups with Tomiko and some other friends, and now that it is rightfully autumn and getting cooler, I am planning on taking it back to work.

I expanded the shawl with five or so extra rows to make it longer and more cozy. The shawl is worked in clusters and shells, giving it a lacy pattern that is still warm. Because of all the clusters and shells, the shawl works up quite quickly – I think I finished it in a couple weeks!

For some reason, in the photos it looks more of a darker blue, almost the same colour of my jeans, even though in real life the yarn is a gorgeous deep turquoise! No matter what I did with the white balance of my camera, the yarn colour didn’t photograph well. Weird!

  1. It’s a pleasure to see handcrafted and cosy items.

Your camera’s picture style characteristics might have changed the turquoise to blue. For example, a neutral style shows more natural colours, while a standard style shows more vivid colors. (Canon 7D: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0/0300002580/02/eos7d-im2-en.pdf, p 64.)
