Snuggled Up for Autumn, Kiku Corner

While in Finland a few years ago, Tomiko and Donatello learned that one of the ways Finns can stay sane all winter is because they are so busy during the summer. Wanting to take advantage of such short summers, Finns will swim in the lake, hike in the woods, play golf, go on picnics, travel, and bicycle. Then during the cold, dark months, they can stay inside, unwind, read, create art, play music, craft, and meet with friends.

I now see their reasoning: after spending the short Toronto summer walking to markets, riding my bike, going on short weekend trips, gardening, dining on patios, visiting and being visited by friends, I’m tuckered out! Now that the nights are cool and the leaves are turning to rust and amber, I actually look forward to sitting in a cozy chair and crocheting while drinking tea with friends.
