Toronto Eats: Early Dinner at Fat Pasha

Fat Pasha is a newly opened restaurant on a quiet corner in the Annex. I passed by it on a few weekday evenings and was surprised that it was packed each time. After looking closer at their funky graphic menu, I was convinced to try out the neighbourhood’s newest Israeli establishment.

The beautiful wall mural depicting various Middle Eastern highlights and a bar stocked with some interesting liquors makes the perfect backdrop for the gorgeous food.

We had a really hard time deciding what to order because we wanted to try everything! Every time someone else’s order walked by, we had to change our minds.

Fat Pasha hummus from Kiku Corner

The bartender claimed the Fat Pasha hummus was the best and a must-try. Having eaten several litres of hummus in my lifetime, I thought this was very a very bold proclamation.  When it arrived however, the presentation alone impressed me, the dip served like a little nest for a handful of whole chickpeas. It had an impossibly creamy texture, a splash of good olive oil, and a side of fresh pita. I would argue it is one of the top hummus places in the city.

Fat Pasha Daily Salatina from Kiku Corner

Next came the Daily Salatina, a large stainless steel tray of various salad samples. Gorgeous colours, great textures, and each one had a unique taste. My favourite were the beet root relish, chopped eggplant with tahini, and the dill cucumbers.

Yukon Gold French Fries from Kiku Corner

My dining companion insisted we try the french fries, and though I was hesitant at first, I’m glad we ordered them. They were crispy, not greasy at all and served with smoked paprika mayo. She later said that she would come down to Dupont again all the way from Thornhill just for those french fries!

Fat Pasha Roasted Cauliflower 3 from Kiku Corner

By far the most stunning item we ordered was the half roasted cauliflower head. Served with tahini, pinenuts, pomegranates, and halloumi, it was spectacular. The saltiness of the cheese, tartness of the pomegranate rubies, buttery nuts and creamy cauliflower were a perfect match.

Fat Pasha Sufganiyot from Kiku Corner

We had to order dessert as well, finally decided on the sufganiyot which I’d never had before. Three light donuts filled with vanilla bean cream and topped with wild blueberry sauce arrived and we devoured them immediately.

Visit Fat Pasha at 414 Dupont Street. Be sure to make a reservation because this small restaurant fills up quickly!

  1. Why was this place not around when I lived in Toronto!! All of those dishes sound fantastic!! I wonder what makes their hummus so good?

    1. Haha, well, you can try it out next time you visit! I really don’t know about the hummus. Maybe the olive oil they used?
